About Laura Bond
Laura is currently studying at The Art Academy in London. A recent interest in sculpture has led her to explore new materials including clay and stone.
Laura spent three months teaching Art in a primary school in Ghana’s capital city, Accra. The virtues and positivity Laura discovered in the Ghanaian people left an indelible mark on her and she spent every waking moment absorbing everything this wonderful country had to offer.
Laura wanted to convey her experiences using paint as her medium, thus enabling others to enjoy what she has witnessed. REBORN is a collection of highly patterned, vivid portraits of local men, women and landscapes which depict the beauty found in everyday Africa.
Laura uses reclaimed wood and an array of used fabrics from tea towels to old clothes as the recycled back drop for her work. Not only does this method produce environmentally friendly art, it also adds another layer of history and intrigue to her work. As viewers, we find ourselves questioning which sections Laura has painted and which she has purposely left transparent.
This recycled theme has developed into a signature style for Laura's pieces and will now be the basis for all future works. Constantly sourcing new ''canvas'' leads Laura to explore the world around her, both locally and globally, allowing her to evolve and grow as an artist.
