Whether you already have a flat helix piercing or are planning for a future placement, you've come to the right place for tips and inspiration...
The flat helix piercing is located in the flat area of cartilage in the upper ear.
A flat helix can be pierced once to act as the centrepiece of a curated ear, or it might also be pierced multiple times in a random series or to imitate constellations.
Any cartilage piercing will take at least three months to begin healing, but will often take six to 12 months to fully heal - timelines will vary from person to person.
Some helpful aftercare tips for healing your flat helix piercing are as follows:
- Clean healing piercing daily with sterile saline solution.
- Avoid harsh chemicals such as tree tree oil or alcohol as they can cause irritation which may prolong healing.
If you're a side sleeper, it's good to consider getting pierced on the side you don't sleep on or to use a travel pillow. Pressure from your regular pillow may prolong your healing time.
Flat helix piercings are the perfect placement for studs. Make a statement with something sparkly or choose tiny dainty pieces if you’ve got more than one piercing in your flat.
Our current collection hosts a range of different stud sizes all with a post length of 6mm. Most people are pierced with an 8mm stud initially then can size down once the swelling has subsided.
As with any new piercing, always double check with your piercer about what size you will be able to once healed - especially if you have a particular piece of jewellery in mind.
